Vung Tau (this letter was mailed to the family when they were on vacation camping at Shad Landing State Park. I believe it actually got through while they were still there and was an unexpected surprise to them)

Dear Folks,

Surprise! Surprise! If you get this letter it will be as much of a surprise to me as to you. I don't expect it to get through, but maybe this one time the mail will get through on time.

I'm still here in sunny wet Vung Tau. The civilians didn't show up for work yesterday and that gave me time to get some radios working. If they would just stay away for a couple days I could probably have everything working and I'd be able to get back to Long Thanh. I'm hoping to get everything squared away before payday. That's wishful thinking though and I don't really expect that to happen.

I'll probably have to go back and get paid and then come back here for another week.

Well, I passed the halfway mark. Six months down, and six to go.

Campsite B-11? Is that the one with the big puddle around it when it rains? That number sounds familiar.

Well, hope your having a good time and some nice weather. They brought the last 10 days worth of mail to me Friday. Twenty four letters in all. Haven't had any mail since then.

So long for now,

Rick
