Dear Folks,

This is the morning of the fifth. Didn't write a letter for the 4th. I fell asleep last night about 7:30 and didn't wake up till midnight. Rolled over, reached in the frig and got a few Reese cups and went back to sleep.

Looks like it's going to be another hot sunny day today. I think the rainy season is just about over. Got baked coming back from Long Binh yesterday. Stood for about an hour waiting for a ride out of the gate. And he was going to Vung Tau so he dropped us off at the dirt road that leads to the gate. That was about a mile walk.

I went to Long Binh yesterday morning to put in for my TDY pay to Nha Trang, Vung Tau and Da Nang. I tried claiming for some meals.  The orders for Nha Trang stated, "Utilization of government mess and government quarters would adversely effect performance of EM duty." So I should get paid for meals on those orders. But that was only a couple days. I also claimed some meals on the Da Nang orders, but I don't know if I'll get paid for them or not. I wanted to pick up my pay for August but they don't pay out any money till after 1 pm. I've got to go back after 1 pm Monday to pick up the TDY pay so I'll try to get paid then. I've got less than $2 left. I even spent that $10 change from Seacord's guitar.

Got two letters from you and one from Tom Kelm. I enclosed it just to prove that somebody has a worse handwriting than I do. I wrote him a gigantic four page letter telling him what had happened since he left. That's why I fell asleep at 7:30. It tired me out. You'll be seeing more of these extra long pages until I can get to the PX. This is just part of a pack of paper I found in the personnel hooch at Da Nang.

Guess that's it for now. I'm going to go right up and mail this letter.

Rick
